Why these eight things matter
Each question maps to a place where small businesses quietly lose time, money or sleep. Late lodgements invite ATO penalties. Books that are only reconciled at tax time hide errors for months. Pricing off a wage instead of the true cost of an hour erodes margin on every job. Payroll set up to the wrong award, or super paid late, can become a backdated bill. A business with no cash buffer has no room to absorb a slow month. The score is a prompt, not a diagnosis: a low mark in any area is simply the first thing worth looking at.

Frequently asked questions
What is a bookkeeping health check?
A quick self-assessment of how well your business's books and financial processes are running, across lodgement timeliness, reconciliation, knowing your true costs, payroll compliance, pricing, cash buffer, live reporting and getting invoices paid. It shows where you are leaking time, money or compliance risk and what to fix first.
How often should I reconcile my books?
At least monthly. Monthly reconciliation catches errors and missing transactions early, keeps your GST and BAS accurate, and means your numbers are trustworthy when you need to make a decision.
Why does knowing my cost per billable hour matter?
Because an employee costs far more than their wage once super, leave, on-costs and non-billable time are included, often 30 to 40 percent more per hour worked. If you price off the wage rather than the true cost, you can lose margin on every hour.
Is this health check free?
Yes. It is completely free, needs no sign-up, and runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you enter is stored or sent anywhere.
