Behind on your books? We catch up months or years of backlog in Xero, prepare outstanding BAS statements, and get your file current before moving to a monthly plan.
Most small business owners reach out when one of these sounds familiar.
You're scrambling at BAS time every quarter to find receipts and reconcile three months of transactions in one weekend
Your accountant asks for a trial balance and you send them a folder of bank statements
You genuinely don't know if your business made money last month, you just know whether there was cash in the bank
You've received an ATO late lodgement penalty and it felt completely avoidable
You spend more than 3 hours a month on bookkeeping, time that would be more valuable spent on your actual business
Your Xero file hasn't been reconciled in months and you're afraid to look at it
If any of these landed, a fixed-fee small business bookkeeper is almost certainly worth it.
True Tally charges fixed monthly fees, not hourly. Here's what determines your price.

Industry-specific experience means we understand your compliance obligations, not just your Xero file.
If you are GST-registered or have employees, a bookkeeper pays for itself. GST-registered businesses must lodge BAS quarterly (or monthly), meet payroll and STP obligations, and maintain records for 5 years. The compliance cost of errors, ATO penalties, amended returns, accountant catch-up fees, typically exceeds a bookkeeper's annual cost after a single mistake. Beyond compliance, clean monthly books mean you actually know if your business is profitable.
Yes, but only if they are a Registered BAS Agent, registered with the Tax Practitioners Board (tpb.gov.au). True Tally is BAS Agent 26360186. Unregistered people who prepare or lodge BAS for payment are operating illegally. Always verify your bookkeeper's BAS Agent registration before allowing them to lodge on your behalf.
Bookkeeping is the day-to-day maintenance of your financial records, reconciling transactions, lodging BAS, processing payroll and generating monthly reports. Accounting (specifically tax accounting) is the year-end preparation of your income tax return and tax planning advice. Both roles use the same financial data; the bookkeeper maintains it throughout the year and the accountant uses it to lodge the tax return. Most small businesses need both.
Yes, if you have the time, knowledge and discipline. Many small business owners manage their own Xero reconciliation. The risk is accuracy: miscoded expenses, GST errors, incorrect payroll settings and missed super payments can create significant ATO liabilities. A common pattern is business owners managing day-to-day transactions themselves but using a bookkeeper for BAS preparation, payroll and the quarterly check that everything is correct.
Basic bookkeeping for small business typically includes: reconciling bank transactions monthly in Xero, coding income and expenses to the correct accounts, preparing and lodging the quarterly BAS, paying super quarterly (or per-payday from July 2026), and generating a basic P&L for your accountant at year end. True Tally's entry-level package covers all of this for sole traders and micro businesses at a fixed monthly rate.
Switching bookkeepers is straightforward. You give your new bookkeeper access to your Xero file, they review the file, correct any issues, and take over ongoing maintenance. True Tally handles all file transitions and onboarding, you don't need to do anything beyond granting Xero access and providing your previous bookkeeper's contact details so we can retrieve any outstanding documents. There's usually a one-off transition/review fee if the existing file needs significant cleanup.
